Axiom Verge

Axiom Verge is a side-scrolling metroidvania by the American developer Thomas Happ, who created the game, its art and its music on his own and released it through Thomas Happ Games. It came out on 31 March 2015 for PlayStation 4 in North America, followed by Windows, macOS and Linux in May 2015, PlayStation Vita, Wii U and Xbox One in 2016 and Nintendo Switch in 2017.

You play Trace, a scientist who wakes up on the alien world of Sudra after an explosion in his lab. He learns about the Breach, which separates universes, and about the Rusalki, mechanical giants who survived a pandemic that wiped out Sudra's people. Exploration, a growing arsenal of weapons and boss fights drive the game.

Reviews were generally favourable, with Metacritic scores between 78 and 89 depending on the platform, as Wikipedia lists. Axiom Verge 2 followed on 11 August 2021.
