About Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a role-playing game developed by the French studio Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive. It was released on 24 April 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X|S, including day one on Xbox Game Pass (Wikipedia).
The dark fantasy world is inspired by the Belle Époque. Every year the Paintress paints a number, and everyone of that age or older vanishes in an event called the Gommage. Expedition 33 sets out to destroy her before she paints again. Combat is turn-based but asks for real-time input: you dodge and parry enemy attacks with exact timing, and you build your six playable characters with Pictos and Luminas.
The game received universal acclaim. At The Game Awards 2025 it won nine awards including Game of the Year, a record for the show, and by April 2026 it had sold more than 8 million units.
