Darkest Dungeon

Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike role-playing game developed and published by Red Hook Studios from British Columbia. After an early access phase starting in January 2015, it was fully released on 19 January 2016 for Windows and OS X, followed by ports for Linux, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, iPad, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One (Wikipedia).

You inherit an estate whose ancestor unleashed an ancient evil by digging beneath it. From the hamlet you recruit heroes from twenty classes and send parties of four into procedurally generated dungeons with turn-based combat. Death is permanent, and the central Affliction system tracks stress: heroes under pressure can break down with afflictions or, more rarely, rise to virtues.

The game was well received, with a Metacritic score of 84 on PC, and sold about 2 million copies by the end of 2017. DLCs such as The Crimson Court followed, and Darkest Dungeon II was released in 2023.
