Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a survival horror game by Koei Tecmo, released on 12 March 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Windows. It remakes the 2003 PlayStation 2 game by Tecmo, known in Europe as Project Zero 2.
Twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura visit a valley about to be flooded by a dam. Mayu follows a crimson butterfly into the cursed Minakami Village, and Mio goes after her. The only weapon against the hostile ghosts is the Camera Obscura, an old camera that damages spirits when you photograph them, as Wikipedia summarises.
According to the official PlayStation page, graphics, sound, controls and gameplay systems were rebuilt, and new side stories and areas were added. New mechanics include holding Mayu's hand to recover health and willpower, camera filters and the Fatal Time attack window.
