About Just Chatting
Just Chatting is a non-gaming category on Twitch for streams where talking to chat is the main content: conversations, reactions, Q&A sessions, daily life and much more. It was introduced in September 2018, when Twitch replaced the broad IRL and Creative sections with a set of more specific categories and launched stream tags, as the Twitch blog announced at the time.
The category grew quickly. By late 2019 it was reported as the most watched content on Twitch, and StreamElements year end rankings put it at number one in 2020, 2021 and 2022, with about 2.1 billion hours watched from January to November 2022, according to Tubefilter. Many streamers also start their broadcasts here before switching to a game.
